Cold weather expected to grip Black Country - with snow and temperatures as low as -4 predicted
The Government's cold weather health alert will remain in place until January 9, as residents around the Black Country are told to prepare for snow and freezing conditions.
An amber cold-health alert is in place across the West Midlands until January 9, with experts predicting temperatures could drop to -5C in some places over the next 48 hours.
Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at UKHSA, said: “As the colder weather sets in it is vital to check in on friends, family and neighbours that are most vulnerable.

“The forecast temperatures can have a serious impact on the health of some people, leading to increased risk of heart attacks, strokes and chest infections, particularly for individuals over the age of 65 and those with pre-existing health conditions.”
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice will come into force for neighbouring Shropshire at 3pm on Sunday, January 4 until midday on Monday, January 5.
While the alert is not in place for the Black Country, some forecasts are suggesting that snow could fall in places including Dudley, Wolverhampton and Walsall between 8pm and 11pm on Sunday.
Freezing conditions are expected widely across the region, with temperatures as low at -5C overnight on Saturday, -3C on Sunday, and -5C on Monday.
More snow is predicted across the Black Country on Tuesday, December 6 and Wednesday, December 7.
