Smoke filled the home in Remington Place, Leamore, near Bloxwich, sparked by a blaze which started at around 9.10am today.

Ten firefighters arrived to battle the blaze which affected both the ground and first floor of the semi-detached house.

Crews from Walsall fire station attended, with two firefighters wearing breathing aparatus to get close enough to tackle the flames.

The crew tweeted: "White Watch tackled a serious house fire earlier, thankfully nobody was injured."

West Midlands Police spokesman Lee Page said: "An investigation into the fire has been launched and is being treated as arson.

"A 65-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in custody."

Around 30 per cent of the house suffered damage caused by the flames as smoke filled the rest of the property.

Ventilation fans were used to remove smoke from inside the house and a neighbouring home.
