Paramedics treated the man inside the truck following the accident off Shaw Road, in Blowers Green, this morning.

Fire crews from Dudley and Brierley Hill stations were called to the scene near Viking Scaffolding Services at around 8.50am.

The roof of the truck was removed and scaffolding placed to support the vehicle during the rescue of the man, thought to be in his 50s, who was said to be 'severely trapped'.

Medics said it was 'remarkable' the man was not more seriously hurt. He sustained a suspected fractured collarbone, neck pain and some minor facial injuries, and has been taken to Russells Hall Hospital.

West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service sent 10 firefighters to the scene where they used scaffolding from the nearby yard to build a high platform in order to cut the man free of the wreck.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "On arrival, crews discovered a male patient, believed to be in his 50s, lying across the front two seats of his vehicle.

"Due to the damage caused in the incident he was trapped and the fire service worked quickly to stabilise the car in order for ambulance staff to be able to fully assess the man."

He added: "Remarkably, the man, who remained conscious throughout, had escaped serious injuries but was treated for minor injuries to his face, neck pain and a suspected fractured collarbone.

"It took approximately an hour to free the man who was immobilised with the use of a scoop stretcher before being moved on to the ambulance and transported to Russells Hall Hospital."

Shaw Road remains partially closed while investigations continue.
