Pensioner, 72, left with broken jaw after iron bar attack outside Walsall pub
A pensioner suffered a shattered jaw when he was beaten over the head with an iron bar as violence flared outside a Walsall pub in the early hours.
The 72-year-old victim's jaw was broken during the terrifying attack outside the Three Tuns in Walsall Road, Willenhall just before 5am on Saturday. The pensioner received head and facial injuries.
He later underwent surgery to repair his jaw and was today in hospital continuing to recover from his horrific injuries.
Investigating detectives are appealing for help tracing a black man in his 20s they believe may be able to help with their inquiries.
A 21-year-old woman suffered a cut head when struck by the same thug during the attack outside the pub. Ranjit Singh, owner of the Three Tuns pub, today said he was 'devastated' and knew the elderly victim.
He said: "The attacker had come in with someone else earlier and he was told to leave because he had been arguing with someone. The man who was hit is a family friend. He had been trying to intervene in the argument. I feel devastated.
"It happened at the side of the pub. He must have been waiting there."
Detectives have spoken to witnesses in a bid to piece together what happened and are now hunting for a black man in his 20s whom they believe could help with their inquiries. Det Sgt
Angela Baggott, from Force CID, said: "The elderly victim was seriously injured and it is important we get the person who did this off the streets as quickly as possible."
Anyone with any information is asked to call Force CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
