Man rescued from car wreckage after Cannock smash
A driver was rescued from the wreckage of his car after hitting a lamp post on a busy road in Staffordshire, causing major traffic hold-ups.
Firefighters took two hours to free him.
The crash in Voyager Way, Cannock, closed the road emergency crews worked at the scene.
The driver, a man in his 60s was trapped in his blue Honda car by his lower legs.
He was taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton for treatment.
The road was closed at the roundabout at Pentalver Way, affecting traffic going to and from the Orbital shopping centre.
Tailbacks from Hednesford reached beyond the A5190 Lichfield Road.
Staffordshire Police spokeswoman Jane Hoult said that the road was temporarily closed at 1pm and re-opened at 3.30pm.
Driver Sarah Hagan, a 32-year-old solicitor, was caught up in the congestion on her way to Cannock from Walsall.
She said: "There were no diversions in place when I passed, it was a bit chaotic. No one knew which way to turn. I ended up doing a detour of nearly two miles."
