20-year-old Stafford woman named as A5 crash victim
A young woman who died in a crash with a lorry has this afternoon been named by police.
Laura Jane Thomas, 20, from Great Haywood, Stafford, was travelling in a silver Vauxhall Astra on the westbound carriageway of the A5 between Telford and Shrewsbury in Shropshire at the time of the accident.
Police believe the car was stationary when it was involved in a collision with a lorry shortly before 8.30am on Sunday.
Miss Thomas was airlifted to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post mortem was being held today and an inquest will be opened in the next few days. A 19-year-old man who was also in the Astra was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with minor injuries.
West Mercia Police renewed an appeal for witnesses to the crash or the circumstances leading up to it. Contact 101.
