[gallery] A stolen van overturned on a grass verge just metres away from a row of homes in Bloxwich, before the driver and passengers fled.
Police are now investigating the crash which happened in Cresswell Crescent, Bloxwich yesterday, at around 7.20pm.
Officers say it was lucky that the van stopped rolling before it hit a home.
Residents gathered to watch as the road was closed for an hour while the vehicle was recovered.
Margaret Bevan, who has lived in Cresswell Crescent for 30 years, said it was a miracle no-one was seriously hurt.
She said: "The van came bombing down the road and swerved onto the grass.
"I heard a few young lads had got out the van and ran away. That van could have smashed into the front of my house. It's frightening.
"If a child had been walking on the pavement they would have had no chance."
Another neighbour ,who did not want to be named, said she heard a deafening screech and then a loud bang. Then she said she saw the police and a fire engines arrive.
Fire crews from Bloxwich were sent to the scene.
