Romeo Mayhead was last seen after he went to bed late last night but when his family woke this morning they found he had gone from their Short Heath home.

He was reported missing to police at around 8.30am and a search was launched around the local area.

Some four and a half hours later Romeo was found safe and well on Rough Hay Road in Darlaston.

Officers were working to reunite the youngster with his concerned family as soon as possible.

The appeal to trace Romeo was retweeted hundreds of times as the police missing person's inquiry gathered pace.

Supt Keith Fraser, from Walsall Police, said this afternoon: "Dozens of officers were involved in the search to find young Romeo and we are pleased to say that he has been found safe and well.

"We are hugely grateful to the public for their assistance with this appeal and it is encouraging to see how so many people came forward to offer help in the community, as well as on social media.

"Thankfully the story has a happy ending."
