M6 Toll closes at Cannock as cars collide
Two cars collided, a lorry veered across the road and another burst into flames today, causing delays on the region's motorways as queues of traffic formed.
The M6 Toll was closed at Cannock, at the T8 turn-off at Wedges Mills, for almost two hours today following a collision between two cars.
The accident at 7.30am caused delays of more than 30 minutes.
Queues of traffic also formed on the A5 today, near the Gailey turn-off of the M6 at junction 12, after a lorry heading towards Cannock hit the central reservation, veering across the road before getting stuck in mud on the grass verge opposite.
The accident happened at 7.05am, causing hold-ups to motorists as the vehicle partially blocked the carriageway.
Meanwhile, two lanes of the southbound carriageway of the M6 at junction four for Coleshill were closed due to a lorry fire at 6.45am.
The closure led to delays of around 30 minutes tailbacks stretching back to junction nine.
Highways Agency spokesman Stuart Thompson said the the slip road at junction 3a of the M42 where the slip road joins the M6 was also closed.
"We didn't want all the people coming off the M42 to join on the M6 that is closed and there are a lot of fire appliances dealing with the incident," he said.
