Families across the West Midlands have received confirmation today of which secondary school their children will attend this September.

Monday, March 2 is National Offer Day, meaning parents can now log on to local authority admissions portals to view their child’s allocated place. Confirmation emails are also being issued throughout the day.

Local councils, including Birmingham City Council and Sandwell Council, have reminded families to formally accept their offers by the deadline stated in their notification and to review guidance carefully if they are considering an appeal.

While many pupils across the region have secured one of their preferred schools, some families will now be weighing up next steps. Parents who did not receive their first-choice offer can join waiting lists — which are ranked according to admissions criteria, not the date joined — and may also submit a formal appeal.

Secondary schools throughout the West Midlands are expected to begin transition arrangements in the coming months, with induction days and information evenings typically taking place during the summer term to help Year 6 pupils prepare for the move.

Parents across the West Midlands can check their offer in the following ways:

  • Online admissions portal: The quickest way is by logging into the same local authority website used to submit the original application. Offers are usually available from just after midnight on National Offer Day.

  • Email notification: Many councils send confirmation emails during the morning to the address provided at application.

  • Offer letter: Some families may also receive a formal letter by post in the days following offer day.

Parents should read the offer information carefully and note the deadline for accepting the place. If they experience difficulties accessing the portal, they are advised to contact their local council’s school admissions team directly.
