The workers at Stafford’s Doxey Academy will walk out in their hundredth day of industrial action on Wednesday.

The GMB Union said the strike comes after school bosses threatened to dismiss the school’s Teaching Assistants, only to re-employ them on worse terms and conditions.

The practice, known as fire and re-hire, would see the workers employed on term time only contracts and a loss of as much as £6000 a year.

Russell Farrington, GMB Organiser, said: “These are facing an impossible choice forced on them by school bosses; either lose up to £6000 a year or lose your job.

“Parents and the local community have shown huge support for these workers, because they know just how vital they are to local pupils.

“It’s time for the school to stop it’s ridiculous opposition to real talks, and get back around the table to end this strike”.
