Eco-awareness Sci-fi book captures hearts of students at Wolverhampton school as author wins special award
A thrilling story of a youngster's battle to keep her growing powers from being taken over and to bring eyes on the issues of climate change has won a prestigious book award.
"Augmented" by Kenechi Udogu was the winning recipient of the Two Cities Book Award, an annual award given out by a partnership between King Edward's School in Edgbaston and Wolverhampton Grammar School.
The Two Cities Book Award was launched in 2022 with the aim to inspire young adults to read for pleasure and saw four titles shortlisted for the award, with "Augmented" voted as the winner ahead of "The Vulpine" by Polly Crosby, "A Grave Inheritance" by Felicity Epps and "Under a Fire-Red Sky" by Geraldine McCaughrean.
The judges said that "Augmented" captured the hearts of young people from across Wolverhampton and Birmingham with "its diverse characters and powerful themes linked to climate change".
