Head resigns from one of Wolverhampton's biggest academies
The headteacher at one of Wolverhampton's biggest schools has quit her post 'for personal reasons'.
Bal Pierpoint has resigned as principal of the 980-pupil North East Wolverhampton Academy (NEWA).
She has been replaced by interim principal Bernard Dickenson.
The school plans to appoint a permanent headteacher in January.
Jon Crockett, chair of the board of the City of Wolverhampton Academy Trust, which runs the academy said: "Bal Pierpoint resigned for personal reasons.
"An interim head is currently in place and we will appoint a permanent replacement in January.
"We'd like to place on record our thanks to Bal for all her work while head of NEWA."
The academy in Marsh Lane, Fordhouses, which has specialist status in mathematics and computing, was told it 'requires improvement' in its most recent Ofsted inspection earlier this year.
Although leadership and management, pupil behaviour and safety and the sixth form provision were rated as 'good' by inspectors.
Achievement in Year 11 was said to have slipped back after two years of improving standards and did not meet floor targets.
The Ofsted report said the academy required improvement, despite leadership and management, pupil behaviour and safety and the sixth form provision being rated as 'good'.
