New £57k vice principal sought at Walsall college
A new vice principal on a salary of up to £57,000 a year is being sought at a college in Walsall as it breaks free from council control.
The post is being advertised by Walsall Adult and Community College which will be run independently from the summer in a bid to secure its long-term future.
The college, which is known as WACC and caters for around 4,500 students a year, was rated as outstanding by Ofsted during its latest inspection.
The advert for the position on Walsall Council's online job shop states it pays between £51,165 and £57,573 a year.
Bosses at the college said that due to a recent promotion there was now a vacancy for a vice principal for curriculum.
The advert states: "We are a forward thinking and community orientated college supported by a committed board of directors and we are looking to recruit a vice principal.
"This is your opportunity to be involved and play a key part in the exciting future of Walsall Adult & Community College.
"We have just reached our 5th birthday and already we are an outstanding college as graded in December 2012 by Ofsted, one of the first in the country."
In August the college will detach itself from the council becoming a legal entity in its own right.
The move to break free from Walsall Council will enable the college to apply for further pots of funding amid government cuts and will save costs for the council.
The college has two sites – in Hawbush Road, Leamore, and Whitehall Centre, Caldmore – and offers courses such as GCSEs, NVQs and apprenticeships.
The college has a turnover of more than £4.6 million and provides more than 8,000 learning opportunities to around 4,500 students.
WACC spokesman Kevin Williams said: "The new vice principal will work in a senior leadership team supporting the principal and directors in creating a shared vision and implementing a comprehensive strategic plan for the college.
"They will provide inspirational leadership to support the college to retain and develop its reputation as an outstanding college and oversee and report to the principal on all academic matters, promoting the maintenance and enhancement of high standards of learning and achievement across the curriculum.
"The vice principal will need to have a strong curriculum background with excellent teaching, learning and assessment expertise."
The college recently appointed new principal Jev Bhalla. He has been the interim principal since February 2014 and his new role begins in August.
