Pool Hayes Arts and Communities High School has been hailed as one of the best improving schools in the country, say a Schools Network survey.

The Willenhall school was announced as one of the top 10 per cent of schools in England for improvements in its GCSE results year-on-year from 2008 to 2011 with a 23 point increase.

The points have been awarded as the school's GCSE results improved from 27 per cent of students achieving five A*-C grades, including English and Mathematics, to 50 per centover the last four years.

Chief Executive of the Schools Network Sue Williamson said: "They have proved themselves to be one of the best schools in the country at improving GCSE results for their students. There is plenty that other schools could learn from Pool Hayes' success."

Every school in the country has been ranked according to how much progress they made in improving their GCSE results in 2011. The new rankings saw Pool Hayes rated in the top 10per cent improving schools in the country.

Headteacher Jim Clarke said: "The results are testament to the commitment and hard work of the students, teaching staff and leadership team."

"I and the Governing Body are incredibly proud of the school's achievement," added Chair of Governors Mark Dibble.
