The event, which was organised by the Dudley Hippodrome Friends and Community Group, asked for all Hippodrome fans to stand together to oppose the destruction.

It was earmarked for demolition to pave the way for a brand new £25 million higher education facility.

Sarah Millard, who visited the Hippodrome regularly when it was open, wrote on Facebook: "It was a really good venue, it was a local place that everyone seemed to love.

"It's a shame that it is being demolished, it really is, but like many things around the Black Country now, it is gone too soon. It's another piece of Black Country history that we probably will never see again."

The one-hour vigil saw around eleven members of the Dudley Hippodrome Facebook group turn up for the vigil, where they helped to spread the importance of local landmarks and heritage sites.

The vigil comes after the site recently became home to one of the latest Banksy-style paintings, penned by stencil street artist, Disney B32.

In the latest developments of the demolition. Window sidings had been removed from the building, exposing the original window framework.
