Residents have hit out after fly-tippers dumped a pile of rubbish including children's toys, power tools and even a musical keyboard in a popular Black Country park.

The waste was discovered at Humphrey Street Park in Lower Gornal on Sunday morning (August 23) with residents saying the area had been clear just hours earlier.

Local man Wil Vincent said he came across the rubbish while walking his dog, having used the park the previous evening when there had been no sign of it.

The pile included children's toys, garden waste, parts of power tools and other household items, as well as a musical keyboard.

Mr Vincent told the Express & Star: "Seeing so many items just dumped in Humphrey Street Park on a Sunday morning whilst walking my dog made me both angry and sad.

"The park is used by much of the Lower Gornal community, and to see it being treated in this way was disgraceful.

"A massive thank you to those who took time out of their Sunday to help clean up the mess that was left.

"It just highlights the community spirit of the Gornal community, and hopefully there won't be any other such instances."

His post about it on social media prompted anger from other residents, with one commenter describing those responsible as "absolute scum" and claiming rubbish had also been dumped near St James's Church at the top of the paddock.

Another resident suggested checking discarded packaging for serial numbers which could potentially help identify where some of the dumped items had come from.

Concerns have also previously been raised about damage elsewhere in Humphrey Street Park.

In a separate Facebook post, Mr Vincent highlighted a scorched tree in the park, although one resident said the tree had come down around two years ago and had previously been set alight.

Mr Vincent also appealed to whoever has been digging up and dumping plants, bushes and tree saplings in the area to stop.

Despite the latest mess, residents rallied to help clear the rubbish, ensuring that the dumping did not spoil the park for dog walkers, children and other members of the community.
