CrossCountry rail disruption hits Birmingham as HS2 work closes key route
The structure will form part of the route into the new Birmingham Curzon Street station.
CrossCountry passengers face disruption this weekend as major HS2 engineering work closes railway lines between Birmingham New Street and Water Orton.
The closure will affect services to destinations including Leicester, Nottingham, Cambridge, York, Newcastle and Scotland, with some journeys taking up to an hour longer.
Trains to and from the North East and Scotland will be diverted and will not stop at Tamworth.
Passengers travelling from Birmingham to Tamworth can use a replacement bus to Coleshill Parkway and then change onto a CrossCountry train at no extra cost.
Replacement buses will also run between Birmingham New Street, Water Orton and Coleshill Parkway.
The disruption is part of HS2 work to install a section of the new Saltley Viaduct over existing railway lines. The structure will form part of the route into the new Birmingham Curzon Street station.
Works are expected to last until tomorrow (August 31). Passengers are advised to check before travelling and allow extra time.
