Man arrested in Wolverhampton city centre after items worth up to £300 stolen in charity shop burglary

A man has been arrested on suspicion of breaking into a charity shop in Wolverhampton.

Wolverhampton Police arrested the man yesterday (Tuesday, March 24) on suspicion of breaking into a charity shop in Victoria Street.

The burglary occurred earlier this month and electrical items worth about £300 were stolen.

Leon Bailey, aged 44, was arrested on Stafford Road in Wolverhampton city centre at around 1.30pm.

He was subsequently charged with burglary and was due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, March 25).

Mr Bailey, of no fixed address, also faces five charges of theft, after items were taken from shops on Cannock Road, with a staff member allegedly being assaulted during one of the thefts.

Wolverhampton Police said: "A man suspected of breaking into a charity shop in Wolverhampton has been arrested.

"His arrest comes after a charity shop in Victoria Street was burgled earlier this month with electrical items worth about £300 being taken.

"Tackling retail crime is an ongoing priority for city centre police teams and we have dedicated neighbourhood officers working in the area to address local concerns."
