Watch: Lucky escape for Birmingham pedestrians after car smashes into parked vehicles

Shocking footage shows the moment a Mercedes car smashes into two parked cars along a residential street in Birmingham.

A mum and young child were forced to run for cover while another pedestrian miraculously escaped serious injury after he was hit by the vehicle in Sparkhill, Birmingham.  

CCTV captured the horror crash, which happened at the junction of Beach Road and Wilton Road at around 4.20pm on Sunday (8/3).

Two cars can be seen speeding along the narrow streets while families are outdoors before one of them smashes head on into a wall.

One by-stander is sent flying to the ground after being struck by the vehicle while a nearby lamppost collapses to the ground.

Incredibly, the man gets back up to his feet and hobbles around holding his leg as the occupants of the crashed vehicle fled.

West Midlands Police are now hunting the suspects and said an assault had taken place on two men by the occupants of the vehicle involved in the collision.

A force spokesperson said: "We were called to Wilton Road, Sparkhill, shortly after 4.20pm on Sunday, after a vehicle crashed into parked vehicles and into the front wall of a property.

"One man, a pedestrian, received minor injuries. The occupants of the vehicle fled.

"Shortly before, an assault had taken place on two men by occupants of the vehicle involved in the collision.

"We’re investigating and anyone with any information should call 101 quoting crime number 20/172368/26.

"Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 5555111."

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "We just heard a loud bang and everyone came running out their homes.

"There was one guy hurt but I think he was OK. It's a miracle that nobody was badly injured or killed. 

"There were lots of people about. I don't know what happened but we believe one car was chasing the other, rather than racing, or they were both trying to get away from some trouble. 

"Either way, it was a very nasty crash and I'm amazed everyone walked away. 

"People drive like idiots around here and these are all narrow residential streets with lots of kids and families." 

One web user commenting on the footage after it was uploaded to social media said: "the fact no one checked on the guy first who was walking. i’d of ran straight over to him."

Another said: "Poor guy minding his own, gets smashed."

A third put: "Lawwwd I didn’t see that guy get taken out at the bottom of the screen. Hope he’s ok that’s mad!" 

One added "Both drivers just got off. No shame or concious [sic]" and another added: "Don't mind me everyone..I'll just walk it off."

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson said: "Shortly before 4.30pm on Sunday 8 March, we responded to Wilton Road, Sparkbrook.

"A fire engine from Highgate attended, arriving to find a car had come into collision with three parked vehicles.

"Firefighters made the vehicles and scene safe, and we left the scene at 5.35pm, with police colleagues in attendance."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said they did not attend the scene.
