Man, 55, arrested after attack on elderly man in Wolverhampton

Police have arrested a 55-year-old man after an elderly man was robbed and attacked in Whitmore Reans.

West Midlands Police officers visited an address on Waterloo Road, Whitmore Reans, on Wednesday morning, where a 55-year-old man was detained as part of enquiries into an incident on Walpole Street on January 24. 

During the incident, an 85-year-old man was pushed over and robbed of his wallet as he walked back from local shops.

He is reported to have suffered cuts and bruises as a result.

A force spokesperson said: "A man has been arrested in connection with a robbery where an elderly man was attacked in Whitmore Reans in January. 

"Officers visited an address on Waterloo Road this morning, where a 55-year-old man was detained as part of enquiries into an incident on Walpole Street on 24 January.

"An 85-year-old man was pushed over and robbed of his wallet as he walked back from local shops. He suffered cuts and bruises as a result.

"Tackling issues relating to violent crime in the local area is a high priority for us across Wolverhampton, and we have dedicated local officers working in every neighbourhood across the city."
