Four arrests following protests in Birmingham city centre

Four people have been arrested following a protest in Birmingham last night.

West Midlands Police had a policing plan in place for a demonstration that took place in and around Henrietta Street in Birmingham city centre on Tuesday, March 10.

During the protest, one man was arrested for preventing breach of the peace, while another man was arrested for racially abusing a police officer.

Police said one man had been arrested.

Following the protest, a disorder took place on Summer Lane. Officers were quick to the scene after a man was assaulted, and two people were arrested on suspicion of wounding. They remain in police custody.

Chief Inspector Tim Robinson from Birmingham Police, said: “We respect the rights of people to protest, but criminality will not be tolerated, and swift action will be taken against those who commit crime and put public safety at risk. 

“Our intention is to ensure that people can protest safely while also keeping our communities safe. The safety of the public is always our priority.”
