Murder trial: Mother not guilty of killing baby daughter in Staffordshire after dramatic change in prosecution case

A jury has found a mother not guilty of killing her baby daughter in Staffordshire after a dramatic change in the prosecution case against her.

At Stafford Crown Court on Monday afternoon (March 9), the jury was instructed by trial judge Mrs Justice Bremmer KC to return not guilty verdicts against Amy Clark for the murder and manslaughter of baby Darcy-Leigh Jefferson on March 29, 2022 at the family's former home in  Hudson Drive, Burntwood.

In unanimous verdicts relating only to the 34-year-old, the jury found her not guilty of those charges.

The 34-year-old was standing trial alongside the baby's father Sean Jefferson, of Walsall, charged with a number of offences relating to her death and her care, including a charge of causing or allowing the child's death.
