However, on Sunday, March 1, neighbourhood officers in Sutton Coldfield spotted Brookes in the retail park waiting for the shops to open.

When officers approached him, he darted from the officers; however, he was arrested after landing on a shopping trolley when attempting to jump a fence.

The 32-year-old was charged with two counts of shop theft and three counts of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order.

At Birmingham Magistrates Court, Brookes admitted the offences and was jailed for four weeks.

Police constable Tom Harris, from Sutton Vesey Neighbourhood Team, said: "We will continue to disrupt and target offenders in this area, so that businesses can trade without the fear of criminals like Brookes stealing from them.

“We’re working hard with shop owners, staff, and other partners, to help them protect their businesses – and I would urge anyone with concerns to contact us."
