Stafford parents jailed after death of three-month-old baby found with head injury and fractured ribs

The parents of a three-month-old baby that died have been jailed after they were found guilty of causing her serious physical harm.

Jack William Davies, 26, and Terrie Marie Wood, 23, both of Stafford, were sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday, February 24 after they were found guilty of causing / allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm by a jury in October 2025.

Davies was jailed for two years, and Wood was jailed for one year and eight months.

Staffordshire Police were called by West Midlands Ambulance Service at 8.37am on February 5, 2021 to reports of a three-month-old baby girl in cardiac arrest at a flat in Stafford. Sadly, she died on her way to hospital.

Following an investigation by the force's child protection team, Davies and Wood were arrested and charged.

The post-mortem showed there was no natural cause to account for the baby’s death and there was evidence of a head injury, which likely occurred several days prior to death. Multiple rib fractures were also identified.

Detective Sergeant Claire Mace, of Staffordshire Police's child protection team, said: “This was an incredibly distressing case for all agencies involved. Today’s sentencing sends a clear message that violence against children will never be tolerated. My thoughts remain with everyone affected by this incident.

“We will continue to work with our partners to protect children from harm, safeguard them and prevent tragic cases like this one.”
