Eighteen-year-old Jonan Walker is accused of attempting to murder Ursula Lawrence, in St Paul's Road, in Smethwick, on March 25 last year. She was found lying on the floor and blood soaked by another of her children after suffering a wound to her neck, a broken nose and fractured eye sockets in the early hours of the morning.

Walker is on trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court accused of attempting to murder his 56-year-old mother, who was already suffering from ill health when the incident happened in the kitchen of the semi-detached house.

As part of the prosecution's case on Monday (February 23) Ms Lawrence's police video interview was played to the jury. Speaking slowly and wiping tears from her eyes, she told the officer the incident was a blur.

"I was in my bedroom when he came home. He didn't say much. I took him to the kitchen to make him some food to eat. I was in the kitchen near to the sink and that is all I can remember.

"We weren't arguing. I was just looking around for something to fix for him. The rest of it is a blur.
