Man, 18, arrested after police officer run down by 'illegally ridden' e-scooter
An 18-year-old has been arrested after a police officer was knocked to the ground by an 'illegally ridden' e-scooter in Birmingham.
Officers were on patrol on Northfield High Street at around 1.30pm yesterday (February 19) when they spotted a rider acting suspiciously. Police say the e-scooter was being ridden illegally.
The rider went down an alleyway but was met by other officers.
He then turned around and headed back onto the High Street, where he collided with a PC from the Guardian Taskforce, a unit that focuses on knife crime and serious youth violence.

The officer suffered a fractured knee and is still in hospital. He is due to have surgery.
An 18-year-old man, from Longbridge, has been arrested on suspicion of wounding, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. He remains in custody.
The e-bike involved in the incident has been seized by officers.
Detective Superintendent Dave Sproson, of Birmingham Police, said: “The officer who was injured was simply trying to detain the rider so he could be spoken to, but has instead been seriously injured.
“Thankfully, he’s in good spirits today and is getting lots of support from family and colleagues. We’re grateful to the members of the public who stopped to help the officer in the immediate aftermath.”
Police say they have already spoken to witnesses and reviewed CCTV from the area - but have urged anyone with further information to contact 101 quoting 2540 of 19 February.
