'Police are under pressure but officers who helped us after our home was targeted by a burglar could not be faulted'
Police officers have been praised after their swift action at a Sutton Coldfield property which was being targeted in an attempted break in.
The officers, from the Sutton Trinity team, were on the scene minutes after they were alerted to an alarm being activated in the Somerville Road area last month.
They made swift enquiries and carried out a full search, finding that someone had prised open the window of a house, but left after being disturbed.
Officers were able to get in contact with the homeowner to quickly update them and neighbours, and helped secure the house so nothing could be taken.
They are now carrying out a thorough investigation including a review of local CCTV and speaking to local residents.
The homeowner, who was abroad at the time, has since written to the team, saying: “I am writing not only to thank your colleagues for their extraordinarily prompt response but also to commend them on their thoroughness, consummate professionalism and courtesy.
“Our neighbour was very impressed indeed by her dealings with the police that night, as were we when we spoke to them on the telephone that evening.
“We since have had a visit from two of your colleagues who wanted to view the CCTV footage. Once again, they could not be faulted and are returning to take statements.
“We realise that the police are under a great deal of pressure but in our view they could not be faulted and we want to record our thanks to all involved.”
The team’s Inspector, Hayley Thompson, said: "We understand how distressing incidents like this can be in the community, and our priority as ever is making sure Sutton is as safe as possible.
“Local officers are here for you, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
“They’re ready to respond to, and investigate, reports of crime – but also to listen and take action where we can help solve issues that are concerning the community.
“We’re grateful for the kind words and pleased we’ve been able to provide reassurance to this homeowner.”
