Five people arrested after shop thefts across Wolverhampton
It was a busy day for officers from a Wolverhampton crime team after five suspected shop thieves were arrested.
The city centre officers alongside officers from Wolverhampton's Priority Crime Team arrested five suspected shop thieves on Wednesday as part of the teams' work to tackle retail crime.
At around midday, a 39-year-old was arrested in Victoria Street after goods were reported to have been taken at a number of stores between November and February, with the force saying Ricky Lloyd had been charged with five thefts.
A 34-year-old was detained in Queen Square at around 4pm, over a theft at a store in the city centre earlier this month, with Luke Smith subsequently charged with five thefts, between September and February, with goods valued at around £500 reported stolen.
The two men were due before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today. No details are yet available of their appearance.
Officers went on to arrest two men in Thornley Street at around 5pm.
Martin Brown, aged 39, has been charged with a number of offences including theft and assault and was also due before Wolverhampton Magistrates today, while another man, aged 31, also arrested on suspicion of theft, has been transferred to colleagues at West Mercia Police.
Officers also arrested a 36-year-old woman on suspicion of theft, at shops in Kingswinford, Darlaston and Wolverhampton, with Kayley Kleaver being charged with theft and bailed to appear at Dudley Magistrates Court on March 3.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "If you see anything suspicious in your area, please report it to us by calling 101. Always call 999 in an emergency.
"We’re catching hundreds more suspected shop thieves in the West Midlands as we continue to act against retail crime across the region."
