Police hunting thieves who stole commemorative David Bowie and John Lennon coins in Dudley robbery that left three elderly men hurt

Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in which three elderly men were injured and commemorative coins were stolen.

The men, aged 75, 79 and 84, were injured in the incident at a unit in Birmingham New Road, Dudley, at 4.20pm on Sunday (February 8).

A large quantity of collectable gold and silver coins was stolen that consisted mainly of boxed Royal Mint coins in their original presentation boxes with proof of authenticity.

Examples include commemorative coins featuring John Lennon, David Bowie, Captain James Cook, Kew Gardens, and James Bond in both silver and 22-carat gold.

Within the collection were also full sovereigns of each year, dating from 1999 until 2026.

Commemorative sets containing both silver and gold 50p coins with five coins per case commemorating 50 years of the 50p were also stolen.

Investigators are also continuing to appeal for anyone who saw a grey/silver Mitsubishi Outlander around the time of the incident.

Detective Sergeant Rich Galbraith said: "The three elderly men were thankfully not seriously injured, and we are continuing our investigation to find those responsible.

“I want to appeal to anyone who is offered any coins like the ones mentioned and pictured, or if you have any information that could help us with our investigation, to please get in touch with us.

“Even the smallest bit of information you may think isn’t relevant could be what we need to find those responsible."
