Roads Policing officers from West Midlands Police carried out multiple speed enforcement operations across the West Midlands, including on the M6, M5 and Aston Expressway.

On the Aston Expressway, 46 drivers were caught speeding, including one driver who was caught doing 85mph, while on Birchfield Road, five drivers were reported for driving at speeds of between 41 and 49mph in a 30mph speed zone.

The force said it was committed to keeping the roads safe and stopping anyone who recklessly puts the lives of others at risk and would not tolerate those who selfishly put other road users and pedestrians at risk.

Superintendent Jack Hadley, Head of Roads Policing Unit, said: “There is a speed limit for a reason and going above that speed by a tiny bit can have serious consequences.

"A speeding car within seconds can ruin so many lives. For the sake of getting somewhere a few minutes earlier, ask yourself is it worth the risk?

“With the announcement of the Government’s Road Safety Strategy, we are committed saving lives by taking dangerous and reckless drivers off our roads.

"We need everyone to work together, including partner agencies and the public, to help us do this.”
