Investigation underway to establish cause of house fire which led to death of Dudley pensioner

An investigation has been launched into a house fire in Dudley which saw a pensioner die at the scene.

The fire broke out at a house on Green Park Road on Monday afternoon, with police, fire and ambulance crews all called to the scene.

A man in his 70s was treated at the scene, but was declared dead and West Midlands Police have now said that an investigation into the cause of the fire has begun.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "We were called to a house fire on Green Park Road, Dudley, alongside other emergency service colleagues at 5.20pm, on Monday.

"Despite the best efforts of emergency services, a man in his 70s was sadly declared dead at the scene. 

"Our thoughts remain with his family and friends. 

"An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire, but we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances."

West Midlands Fire Service have been contacted for a comment.
