StreetWatch volunteers clock up thousands of hours to keep West Midlands neighbourhoods safe
StreetWatch has shown the power of community action, with 2025 proving to be a standout year for the neighbourhood safety initiative across the West Midlands.
Over the past year, 838 volunteers have taken part in 131 StreetWatch groups, giving a combined total of 7,140 hours to help keep their local areas safe.
Volunteers carried out high-visibility patrols, tackled issues such as antisocial behaviour, and worked closely with neighbourhood police teams across the West Midlands to share local intelligence and identify crime trends.

StreetWatch is a community-led scheme that brings residents together to act as extra eyes and ears in their neighbourhoods. By reporting concerns and engaging directly with police, volunteers help improve safety and provide reassurance to local communities.
Sam O’Dell, StreetWatch Coordinator, said: “Our StreetWatch volunteers are incredible. Their commitment and local knowledge play a vital role in supporting neighbourhood police teams.
“The information and reports they provide help us build a better picture of crime and antisocial behaviour, allowing teams to focus resources on the right places at the right time.
“The impact of StreetWatch goes beyond numbers – it’s about building trust, confidence, and stronger connections between communities and policing.”
The initiative continues to grow, highlighting how residents working together can make a real difference to neighbourhood safety across the region.
