Mamba drug danger warning for West Midlands as man arrested in Birmingham city centre near the ramp
Police are warning West Midlands people about the dangers of "Mamba" as a suspected drug dealer is arrested in Birmingham
The man, aged 30, was detained on Monday afternoon by city centre officers who were patrolling the area.
Acting on intelligence about a suspected drug deal happening near Stephenson Place in Birmingham city centre, officers were quickly on the scene and following searches, a large quantity of suspected Mamba was seized.
West Midlands Police said the drugs had been sent for analysis to check whether or not they are contaminated and said it was aware of reports that potentially dangerous batches of Mamba were in circulation.
The man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs, and remains in police custody.
City centre Chief Inspector Amanda Thompson said: "The risks of taking Mamba shouldn't be underestimated, and we are working with a range of partners to educate people on the dangers of it.
“We are liaising closely with Public Heath colleagues as we work to understand whether the quantity we've seized here is contaminated or not.
"Our dedicated city centre officers are patrolling 24 hours a day, and are ready to listen and act on any concerns or information about drug crime."
