When he went back inside, McGahan punched the victim. They fought for a few minutes until police officers arrived at the scene.

When officers told McGahan he was under arrest, he ran away into nearby woodland.

Officers then worked hard to capture all of the available evidence and to support the survivor as much as possible.

McGahan, who was on the run, was tracked down by officers and brought in.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to the offences and has been remanded ahead of his sentencing date at Stafford Crown Court on April 1.

Detective Constable Reece Hingley, from Staffordshire Police's criminal investigations department said: “The physical abuse that McGahan inflicted on the survivor in this case was appalling, and I’m pleased we’ve been able to secure this outcome for her.

“We will continue to take robust action against those responsible for high-harm offences in Staffordshire and protect those affected by these crimes.”
