Burntwood GP 'did not see any bruises on newborn baby' allegedly killed in Staffordshire, court told
A GP told the trial of a man and a woman accused of murdering a baby in Staffordshire that he did not see any bruises on the newborn.

Giving evidence for the prosecution Dr James Ward told the jury he was working at Darwin Medical Practice, in Burntwood, when defendant Amy Clarke attended an appointment with her baby Darcy-Leigh Jefferson on March 18, 2022.
On Thursday at Stafford Crown Court prosecutor Mr Harpreet Sandhu KC asked him if there were any marks or bruises on the baby's skin.
The witness said the examination involved stripping the baby down to her nappy and that it included checking for bruising. He said he did not find any marks and did not notice anything to suggest Darcy-Leigh was at serious risk.
Dr Ward replied: "I did not find anything abnormal. She was tiny. I remember putting redressing her and I was struggling to to get one of her arms into the sleeve. She was born prematurely and was slow to put on weight."
