The events led to a verbal altercation, and Lewis Whitsey, who was nearby, joined the dispute before going on to assault the man whose dog had been attacked.
Whitsey left following the assault, before later returning with a chainsaw and attempting to attack the man.
Luckily, the chainsaw cut out just as he went to attack him, and the man managed to escape.
West Midlands Police's Solihull team carried out an investigation, where they identified Whitsey, and he was arrested three days later.
He pleaded guilty to wounding and was jailed on Tuesday, January 20, for two years and two months.
A force spokesperson said: "Whitsey left the area and then returned with a chainsaw and attempted to attack the man with it.
"Thankfully, it cut out just as he went to attack, and the man managed to get away from the area. Whitsey pleaded guilty to wounding, and he was jailed on Tuesday, January 20, for two years and two months."
