The officers from the West Midlands Police Project Guardian Taskforce arrested two men in Birmingham city centre on Saturday (January 24) on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs, while a man was arrested on Sunday in Alum Rock on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon after a zombie knife was recovered.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A busy shift for our Project Guardian team led to three men being arrested, suspected class A drugs recovered, and a zombie knife seized.

"Officers from the Guardian Taskforce, set up to tackle knife crime and youth violence across the West Midlands, were in Birmingham city centre on Saturday when they were flagged down by a member of the public who reported someone trying to sell drugs.

"The team began immediate enquiries and detained two men on Union Street shortly before 6pm.

"A quantity of suspected class A and B drugs were recovered, and both were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.

"A day later, Guardian officers were in Alum Rock when they spotted a group of men running from a vehicle.

"One man was detained while officers searched the area, recovering a zombie knife shortly afterwards, and he was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

"Enquiries into both of these incidents are ongoing.

"Project Guardian exists to reduce knife crime, through a range of tactics from plain-clothed operations to high visibility patrols and positive engagement with young people.
