Thousands of pounds worth of power tools recovered following raid on Smethwick property
A man was arrested and more than £50,000 of suspected stolen power tools recovered as part of police action into tool theft in Sandwell.
On Friday, officers from West Midlands Police arrested a 49-year-old man from an address in Smethwick as part of an investigation into the theft of power tools between December 2024 and January this year.
This comes after reports of suspected stolen power tools being sold on Facebook and saw a large quantity of power tools were seized from the address.
The force confirmed the man has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Detective Sargent David Tenn from Sandwell CID said: “We are now in the process of compiling a list of all the recovered tools to hopefully reunite them with their rightful owners.
“If you're a tradesperson, your van and tools are essential to your work, and we understand the worry and upset if your tools are stolen.
“Thieves often target vehicles left unattended, stealing valuable tools and equipment.
“Officers are patrolling hot spot areas, and we are also working with local hotels and businesses to improve security and awareness around tool theft.”
