Man arrested and drugs seized by Operation Guardian patrols in Wolverhampton city centre

A man was arrested and a quantity of drugs seized after officers from a specialist police team made a proactive arrest.

The officers from West Midlands Police's Project Guardian team arrested the man in Wolverhampton city centre after a brief foot chase on Friday and, after conducting a search, found a number of wraps of suspected class A drugs.

The 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and has been bailed with conditions while enquiries continue.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A quantity of suspected cocaine and heroin has been seized after Project Guardian officers arrested a man in Wolverhampton city centre.

"On Friday afternoon, the specialist team were patrolling near the city centre's bus station when they spotted a man acting suspiciously.

"As uniformed officers approached, the man ran off but after a short foot chase he was detained in Albion Street.

"Following searches a number of wraps of suspected class A drugs were recovered.

"The 24-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply, has been bailed with conditions while enquiries continue.

"Project Guardian is a specialist taskforce which tackles knife crime and youth violence alongside seizing drugs and weapons.

"Tackling issues around violent crime and carrying weapons is a priority across Wolverhampton and we are working hard to identify anyone involved as part of Operation Redfox."
