London man due in court after swindling Wolverhampton woman out of £10,000 by falsely claiming to be police
A man is due to appear in court today after a woman was tricked into handing over almost £10,000 in a sophisticated telephone scam in Wolverhampton.
The victim was contacted by someone claiming to be a police officer, who told her there was a problem with counterfeit bank notes being paid into her account.
She was persuaded to withdraw a large sum of money so it could be checked as part of the supposed investigation.
The caller then arranged for a so-called ‘courier’ to collect the cash from her home in Graiseley, Wolverhampton.

Believing she was helping police, the woman agreed to the visit and handed over nearly £10,000 on Wednesday (January 21).
However, when a man returned to her address later in an attempt to obtain more money, members of the public became suspicious and stepped in, prompting a call to police.
Officers arrested Sahil Rabbani, aged 22, from London, who has since been charged with fraud by false representation and attempted fraud by false representation.
Rabbani is due to appear before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today (January 24).
The victim is continuing to recieve support from West Midlands Police.
