Man arrested after elderly woman tricked into handing £10,000 to fraudsters in Wolverhampton
A man has been arrested after a woman in her 80s was tricked into handing over nearly £10,000 in a courier fraud scam.
The victim, who lives in Wolverhampton, had been phoned by someone posing as a police officer, who tricked her into withdrawing the cash by saying there was a problem with fake bank notes being deposited into her account.
He persuaded her the money would need to be collected by a ‘courier.'

The woman agreed to meet the ‘courier’ at her address in the Graiseley area on Wednesday and handed over the money.
When a ‘courier’ arrived yesterday to try to get more money from her, members of the public intervened, and police were called.
A man aged 22 remains in custody today on suspicion of fraud, and police are supporting the woman who was targeted.
