Man arrested after Smethwick armed bank robbery
A man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences in connection with an armed robbery at a bank in Smethwick.
West Midlands Police said the incident had taken place on Tuesday on Bearwood Road, with a person entering the bank with a weapon and threatening staff, then stealing an iPad.
The force confirmed a 45-year-old man had been arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of robbery, as well as a number of other offences relating to incidents in Birmingham and Sandwell.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A man has been arrested after an armed robbery in Smethwick earlier this week.
"At around 3.20pm on Tuesday, a suspect entered a bank on Bearwood Road brandishing a weapon, and threatening staff. An iPad was stolen.
"Whilst on patrol yesterday afternoon in Birmingham, officers arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of robbery.
"He was also further arrested on suspicion of a number offences in Birmingham and Sandwell including burglary, aggravated burglary and assaulting an emergency worker.
"The man remains in custody for questioning."
