'I was acting in self-defence' - Man accused of murder on Walsall street tells jury

A man accused of the murder of a twenty-two-year-old in a Walsall street told the trial he acted in self-defence.

The alleged victim Mohammed Khan was stabbed around 30 times during an confrontation with a group in Bloxwich Road, Leamore, at the junction with Northumberland Way on March 17 last year. He was stomped on before being left for dead at the scene.

Giving evidence on Wednesday one of the accused Amaan Khan, aged 22, told Wolverhampton Crown Court that he was acting in self-defence when he kicked the victim while he lay on the ground during the incident.

Amaan Khan said: "I knew he was injured, but I didn't know he was severely hurt or that it was life-threatening situation. I didn't think he was as bad as that at the time."

"I didn't know that he was defenceless at that point.  My actions were were in self-defence and in defence of another person."
