West Midlands Police confirmed that a 36-year-old man had been arrested in the city centre in connection with a robbery on December 2 where a man was forced to hand over money to a man in possession of a knife and a man's watch being stolen on December 29.

The force confirmed the man had remained in custody overnight after being arrested on Monday afternoon.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A man has spent the night in police custody after being arrested in the city centre yesterday as part of enquiries into a robbery.

"We have been investigating an incident which happened on December 2 in All Saints, where a man in his 40s was forced to hand over money by a man in possession of a knife.

"As part of enquiries, a suspect was identified and arrested by city centre neighbourhood officers in Queen Square on Monday afternoon.

"The 36-year-old was arrested on suspicion of robbery and theft, which relates to a second incident where a man's watch was stolen on December 29.

"The arrest forms part of our ongoing work to reduce city centre crime, as part of Safer Streets Winter."
