Warning for residents to be vigilant after man abuses homeowner in Essington

Residents across Essington and south Staffordshire have been warned to be vigilant after an incident where a homeowner was verbally abused.

South Staffordshire Police have advised people to be careful when answering the door after the incident on Monday, which saw a man offer to cut a tree, then become verbally aggressive when the offer was declined.

The force said it was continuing inquiries into the incident and has asked people to only answer the door to people they know and are expecting.

A spokesman for South Staffordshire Police said: "We are urging residents to be vigilant after reports of a suspicious incident in Essington recently.

"We were called on Tuesday to Wolverhampton Road, after an unknown man had knocked a door and offered to cut a tree, at around 4pm on Monday.

"When the homeowner declined, the man became verbally aggressive before leaving the scene

"The man is described as white, in his mid-30s, around 5ft 9ins tall, with a beard, wearing a grey hat, light green jacket, red shirt, grey trousers and black shoes.

"Our inquiries are continuing and local officers are reminding people to make sure they only answer the door to people who they know and are expecting.

"Anyone with information, CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage should contact us on 101 quoting incident number 152 of 13 January.

"Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or call 999 in an emergency."
