Birmingham man denies murder nearly six years after body found in canal

A man has denied the murder of a 48-year-old whose body was found in a canal nearly six years ago.

Cain Watson, 33, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday by video-link from HMP Birmingham where he pleaded not guilty to murdering Darren Round.

Mr Round’s body was discovered on the morning of February 15 2020 near Masshouse Lane in Kings Norton, West Midlands Police said.

Watson, of Dornie Drive, Birmingham, also denied an alternative count of manslaughter in relation to the death of Mr Round.

Judge Andrew Smith KC told the defendant, who wore a grey sweatshirt, that his trial will begin on June 1 and is expected to last two to three weeks.
