Jason Pettit, aged 47, and Jodie Westwood, aged 42, were "selfish and mean" and caused "further unnecessary suffering" to the family of Fitzroy Green, who lay prone outside his flat in a high rise block in Himley Street, Dudley at around 10.40pm on December 15 of 2024, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

Amongst the items found by police in Pettit's house, only yards from where Mr Green lived, were his flat keys, laptop, tablet, mobile telephone, headphones - even his library card.

Richard Davenport, prosecuting, said the emergency services were called when Mr Green was seen to be having a heart attack and crews promptly arrived, giving him CPR. Sadly he died at the scene.

Mr Davenport said: "Pettit was seen leaving Green's flat as they tried to save the victim and police became suspicious when questioning him and Westwood, who also turned up at the scene, with the pair saying they had been out walking when they saw him struggling and tried to help him.

"During the conversation, the police officers were suspicious of a phone that Petit had which at one point was on alert and didn't seem to be his own.

"They were then made aware Pettit and Westwood were wanted on another matter of burglary and they were arrested and their address at Lawley Street was searched, and two bags containing many items belonging to Mr Green were found.
