Man charged after supermarket staff assaulted in Tipton

A man was arrested and charged after an incident which saw staff at a supermarket assaulted.

West Midlands Police said that Stefan Baker had been charged with shop theft and assault following the incident, which saw officers called to a store on Brick House Lane in Tipton on Monday morning.

The 40-year-old, of Aston, was set to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Tuesday. No details are available of his appearance.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A suspect was appearing in court today after staff at a supermarket were assaulted.

"Stefan Baker, of Aston, has been charged with shop theft and assault.

"It comes after officers were called to a store on Brick House Lane, Tipton, at around 10.50am yesterday (Jan 5) to reports of alcohol being stolen and shop staff being assaulted.

"Baker, aged 40, was remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court today (Jan 6)."
