Duaine Mills, 28, and 32-year-old Syed Zain Ali died after a shooting in Leicester Street in Wolverhampton in the early hours of September 19 last year.

Maneer Khan, 38, who is accused of murdering them, appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday by video link from HMP Dovegate in Staffordshire beside his co-defendant 34-year-old Yaseen Patel, of Birmingham.

Khan wore a dark blue T-shirt when he pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and two firearms offences related to the incident on September 19.

Khan, of St Catharine’s Close, Walsall, also denied a count of fraud on November 20, when he is alleged to have made a false representation to HM Passport Office.

Patel, who wore an orange sash over a black T-shirt, denied assisting an offender after allegedly driving Khan to HM Passport Office to apply for a passport under a false identity, the court heard.

Both defendants spoke only to confirm their names, to enter their pleas and to tell the judge they could hear him.

Judge Michael Chambers KC remanded them in custody to appear for trial, which is expected to last three weeks, starting on July 20.
